Derek

Derek has been a musician since the age of 8 starting with classical violin for 5 years. He then began following the direction of Dustin and Drew into the realm of Texas style competition fiddling and then bluegrass.  Derek competed on fiddle from age 12-18 in numerous regional and national contests placing in the top ranks and was the junior champion at the North Cascades regional contest.  At age 15 Derek began picking up the upright bass and so began his love of bass. At age 16, he began playing on the electric bass.  In addition the the Konzelman Family, Derek has had the opportunity to play with many great artists including The Acclaim, Roman Holiday, Liddy Voetberg, Luke Breton Van Groll and others.

 

Derek is a graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in Communication and a minor in business administration.  He is managing at Anthem coffee & Tea in Puyallup and Tacoma.  He is also pursuing a career in business and marketing.  On the side he enjoys swing dancing and DJ-ing, skiing, airsoft, hiking, and working on his Subaru.
